(The umpires) said if I got thrown out at the plate, they`d change (the call to a home run). It hit the net and people were yelling, `Three!` so I`m like, `I don`t know what`s going on. I`d better just keep running.` I was just as confused as everybody else.
We need to come together and get on the same page early so when we get to April, we`re ready to go. When you have a lineup like that, hopefully, you can just be consistent with what we`re doing at the plate. With the arms we have on our staff, it makes for a nice combination.
Griffey was the one person I was able to watch as a kid growing up. I didn`t watch too much baseball, but if the Mariners were playing, the game was going to be on. ... He`s the guy I tried to model my game after as much as possible.
I don`t want to make an out. Everyone else is doing something.
It was fun. Going and watching him on a day-to-day basis and seeing what he`s able to do still at the age of 36, it`s amazing. He`s arguably one of the top 10 players to ever play this game and put a uniform on.
I`m just changing the whole mental process of it. Just going up there and getting your concentration down at the beginning of March, hopefully, it will help.
He`s already been here, unfortunately, and (Toronto) decided to trade him. Who says he`s going to stay there? You never know. ... I have two years left here, and things could change. I could be here for a lot longer.
Guys come in here and have a good time. Guys are relaxed. Everybody has the same goal in mind -- to win. It hasn`t happened the last few years, but I think this is a unique clubhouse, because everybody gets along, everybody likes each other. That makes for a fun year.
It`s tough. He`s a great guy. And he was putting together an unbelievable season. It`s tough losing him and hopefully his arm will be nice and energized come next year.
We have a chance to put some runs on the board. That`s all you can ask for as far as offense goes. From top to bottom, we have a chance to do damage.
