This is right. Justice is done, amen.
Merck is still going to try and fight the next several cases and try to pull the next couple of wins out of a hat, so that Merck can say this was a bizarre coincidence,
It`s about time,
It will at least preclude lawyers like me from saying they`ve resolved to never settle any,
The jury saw the truth in black and white.
We`ve seen a decade of deception by Merck.
We have a right to know. They ought to tell us the good, the bad and the ugly.
(The jury awarded plaintiff Carol Ernst $243 million, though Texas law prevents her from collecting damages that high.) When the dust settles there will be $26.3 million at 10 percent interest annually, ... I`m not sure Ms. Ernst will see any of that for the next five years.
This case is about folks trying to make money off of people in a desperate situation. That`s not right. You come to people`s rescue when they are in a desperate situation. You don`t target them as something you can make money off of.
Merck`s behavior, in my mind, was tantamount to negligent homicide. They were going to kill people and they knew it.
