Daryle Ward Quotes

Daryle Ward

I remember Craig Biggio standing in the on-deck circle encouraging me, saying it was a good time to get that first one out of the way. Tony Gwynn was playing right field, and I hit a line drive in front of him.

You can`t put everything against him. He`s putting the effort out there. We all know he makes games exciting, but that`s Mesa.

(Ortiz) was able to get some runs. He got a little comfortable and then he caught his groove. It was kind of tough to get some pressure on him (after the third inning). He pitched a good game. He went all nine. He kept his composure and he didn`t panic.

We had the lead, and we had the guy we wanted on the mound, ... Things didn`t go our way.

I got the run in, but if I get a hit, we get two runs and put even more pressure on their pitcher. Sometimes in those situations, you need to keep the ball out of the air and hit a line drive.

It`s good to get a run but, if we get a hit in that situation, it could probably put a little more pressure on Ortiz. He caught his groove after that.
