I`m saying that the WMD reporting was not consciously evil. It was bad journalism, even very bad journalism.

Now, I think the likelihood of it failing on something like WMD again is very slight because everybody is aware of how we in the press blew it.

A great deal has been accomplished by the team, and I do think it important that it goes on and it is allowed to reach its full conclusion. In fact, I really believe it ought to be better resourced and totally focused on WMD; that that is important to do it.

I`m not saying that getting to the bottom of this WMD issue isn`t important. It is important. But it is not of immediate consequence.

There was a political failure over the intelligence before and after the war because it was always about WMD and not what was going on on the ground, ... If we had really concentrated on winning hearts and minds, the intelligence would have flowed and we would have seen this coming.
