Actors are the world`s oldest, underprivileged minority - looked upon as nothing but buffoons, one step above thieves and charlatans. These award ceremonies simply compound the image for me.
- George C. Scott(On Hillary Clinton) A lot of the stuff people say about her, I hear it and my stomach falls because it`s so sexist. You ask people why they don`t like her and it`s because her husband cheated on her! That was obviously not her choice. She`s so much more polished and experienced than anyone else. Last night, a friend, a social worker in L.A. who works with underprivileged kids, was saying how these girls who have never been interested in politics before are so excited that a woman might be president. I mean, look how many women are in government...Hillary`s one of, what, (a handful of) female senators? I also like Obama. I even like McCain. I disagree with his war stance -- which is a really big deal -- but I think he`s a very moral person. I met him and Hillary on the same day, actually, when I went to Washington with Finca (a nonprofit that gives loans to businesswomen in developing countries). Hillary was by far the smartest person I met that day. Just totally focused, and knew more about the issues than anyone else, and was so able to go from one thing to the other.
- Natalie PortmanOne of the things that strikes me is that no matter how difficult or underprivileged the situation you were living in as a child, it wasn`t considered difficult. I don`t think as children, you are aware of it. You have nothing to compare it to.
- Sean ConneryWe raise so much money for hospitals, but it`s not just about that. Anybody can come up with a bunch of money to give to somebody. It`s about going to a hospital and hanging out with the kids and dancing and singing with them or giving underprivileged kids a chance to go to a theme park for a day or rebuilding a playground. I love it so much. It`s really gratifying. - on her work for the charity Kids With a Cause.
- Hilary DuffWe`re trying to be proactive and not reactive to the situation. We need to have a little more compassion for the underprivileged. It`s hard for them to get the help they need because they`re looked down upon.
- Angela LiTelevision is the literature of the illiterate, the culture of the low-brow, the wealth of the poor, the privilege of the underprivileged, the exclusive club of the excluded masses
