I am rather surprised that I haven`t made more stories about my own country but it is a mistake to suggest that the biggest influence on my life in terms of movies has been America. It was and remains Ken Loach and his whole body of work, not that I have ever worked with him. There is something unique and pure about the way he works, without a taint on it. His beliefs have remained unwavering since he made Cathy Come Home.

But it seems that the judging maybe they shouldn`t at least see the practices all week long. That can taint the way they go into the judging and the outlook of what`s going to happen, instead of just watching those four minutes and judging on those minutes alone.

Everything that`s written about me has such a negative taint. It just has a life of its own, like an avalanche, and I don`t think there`s anything I can do to stop it.
