I think I am more attracted to characters with a subtext, whatever that is and they don`t necessarily have to be virtuous, but they have to at least be human.
- Clive OwenShakespeare doesn`t really write subtext, you play the subtext.
- Gary OldmanPersonally, I don`t think we could do such a show if we didn`t get along. The subtext of all this is that we`re women in a show so we can`t possibly get along. It`s not like they write about The Sopranos like that.
- Kristin Davis(suburbia) "I think the atmosphere that I grew up in, yes, there was a subtext of normalcy. I don`t even know what the word means, but it`s stuck in my brain. It`s weird. I don`t know if it`s specifically American, or American in the time I grew up, but there`s a very strong sense of categorization and conformity. I remember being forced to go to Sunday school for a number of years, even though my parents were not religious. No one was really religious; it was just the framework. There was no passion for it. No passion for anything. Just a quiet, kind of floaty, kind of semi-oppressive, blank palette that you`re living in."
- Tim BurtonIt`s a dramatic shift for my character. He has put away the hatred for his brother - the sibling rivalry, the envy. At the core of him is respect for what he knows Sonny to be, and the subtext that he can save his brother.
- Rick HearstThe generation that`s 20 years old doesn`t need the subtext of a sitcom,
- Matt ThompsonI was never a member of the Communist Party, but they brought up all sorts of charges that I had been to the Lab Theater, which was considered subversive. All we did there were the classics, `Volpone,` `The Cherry Orchard.` I still don`t know how they managed to find a Marxist subtext in Feydeau.
