Silk Quotes

I have a love-hate relationship with white silk.

(On turning her back on Hollywood blockbuster adventure films): I can`t imagine ever doing another one. I had five months off from Pirates during the summer last year, when I made Silk and Atonement, and it was so great - I want to be able to explore emotions in smaller projects. That`s not to say I won`t suddenly read a big Hollywood blockbuster and go `oooh, that might be good...` But I haven`t yet.

I don`t like silk underwear. They don`t do the job, you know?

I wore a ghastly Roman helmet, a shield and a spear and was bedecked in blue silk skirts topped off with a long, blond, curly wig. As I stood up to speak, the wind caught my skirts and raised them above my eyebrows. I spent the entire speech battling with billowing silk and revealing everything underneath. It didn`t dampen the desire to perform, though.

We airbrushed satin to make it look like chinchilla fur, ... We used silk and synthetic threads to imitate ermines and fluffy fabrics and then used silk chiffon and quilted it to look like sheared beaver.

And when I look around America today I feel we`re oversaturated with goods. Like most of western Christian civilization, we feel it`s fine if we`re comfortable and, if the rest of the world isn`t, then that`s their problem. We`re not generous. And the idea of paying some chief executive $40 million a year is just obscene. I don`t deny it`s nice to have silk sheets or whatever, but we live in a deeply unequal society and our luxury is both excessive and wasteful.

Silk Road to Ruin has all the analysis and it`s structured very well. I rely on my notes more and I use direct quotes. But there`s nothing like writing about it right away.
