"If I weren`t a Christian Scientist, and I saw Trog (1970) advertised on a marquee across the street, I`d think I`d contemplate suicide."
- Joan CrawfordMy father was a scientist for the Forest Service. He would drive me through the woods in his green Forest Service truck, over dirt roads, through the most beautiful forests where the trees are very tall and shafts of sunlight come down and in the mountain streams the rainbow trout leap out and their little trout sides catch glimpses of light. Then my father would drop me in the woods and go off. It was a weird, comforting feeling being in the woods. There were odd, mysterious things. That`s the kind of world I grew up in.
- David LynchNothing shocks me. I`m a scientist.
- Harrison FordI wanted to be a forensic scientist for a long time... It`s like putting the pieces of a puzzle together. Solving mysteries seemed like it would be fun, scary and exciting all at the same time.
- Kristin KreukI just wanted to be a scientist.
- Terrence HowardI play a scientist in a futuristic world in which 99% of the men have been wiped out. As a result, the women are nearly all homosexuals and the children are cloned.
- Julie BowenBut I enjoy being an actress a lot, because I can feel different women`s lives. I have the chance to feel like a geisha one day, and on another day maybe a scientist. That`s the interesting part for me. My profession has helped me to grow up.
- Ziyi ZhangI love being a very personal singer-songwriter, but I also like being a scientist or explorer.
- BjörkIf not for music, I would probably be a very frustrated scientist. It`s one way to answer the question, `What is the meaning of life?` I feel music answers it better.
- Paula ColePeople think that if you are a scientist you have to give up that joy of discovery, that passion, that sense of the great romance of life. I say that`s completely opposite of the truth.
- Ann DruyanWhen a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
- Arthur C. ClarkeIt is a joyous occasion for a scientist when the subject which interests him most is recognised by the highest honour that the world can bestow.
- George PorterWhen the honour is given to that scientist personally the happiness is sweet indeed. Science is, on the whole, an informal activity, a life of shirt sleeves and coffee served in beakers.
- George PorterI believe that a scientist looking at nonscientific problems is just as dumb as the next guy.
- Richard FeynmanEverybody`s a mad scientist, and life is their lab. We`re all trying to experiment to find a way to live, to solve problems, to fend off madness and chaos.
- David CronenbergI did a grad film but that ended up hurting me more than it helped. My grad film was this over the top, gonzo, completely absurd sci-fi thing with non- professional actors. When you have actors in their fifties who are still doing student films, you`re not going to get top-of-the-line. It was a thing with a teleportation chamber, with a mad scientist and it was completely absurd. It cost $60,000, but it was completely campy, Mystery Science Theater 3000" (1988) kinda stuff, so when people looked at the short, they went, `Well, is this how the acting is going to be in Donnie Darko (2001)? We don`t think you can direct actors if that`s anything to go by.` I was like, `Give me a good actor, and I can direct.` It became really frustrating when the short came up and it gave people a reason to pass. I would recommend that if you want to do a short, then do a short that`s one or two scenes from the feature you want to direct, so they can see it. They really can`t think outside the box. If you want to get a feature made, I would go and scrape together whatever money you can get, find an actor who can really pull off one of the parts and shoot a few scenes from your feature screenplay that can serve as a short. That`s the best evidence that you can give them. That`s what Wes Anderson did with Bottle Rocket, it was originally a short film. And it worked."
- Richard KellyI`m a filmmaker, not a scientist.
- Roland EmmerichI`m not being evasive but I am saying I`m not a scientist and I`m not directly involved in the consultation however the science must be sound, it must be agreed and the consultation must be of a high quality or no one will have any confidence in the process.
- John AndersonIt doesn`t take a rocket scientist to figure it out -- it`s just an attack on traditional retirement and medical benefits.
- Johnny WalkerIf you put somebody on a crack pipe and give them a 9 mm Baretta, you don`t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what`s going to happen next.
- James Lee BurkeI was trained as a neurologist, and then I went into the theater, and if you`re brought up to think of yourself as a biological scientist of some sort, pretty well everything else seems frivolous by comparison.
- Jonathan Miller(Myers and Jeff Williams, another USGS scientist, noted that the lake already is polluted. Still, it is a critical estuary that supports important fisheries and wildlife habitat.) Clearly, there is cause for concern ... How much of a negative impact ... we are not in a position to say.
- Jeff WilliamsDissent is the native activity of the scientist, and it has got him into a good deal of trouble in the last years. But if that is cut off, what is left will not be a scientist. And I doubt whether it will be a man.
- Jacob BronowskiMy father was a soil scientist with the Geological Survey.
- Jim FowlerHe`s 19 years old, and it doesn`t take a rocket scientist to figure out how he feels about that.
- Henry Hall(Jack King, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers spokesman, said defense attorneys will track down most defendants in those 300 cases.) Now, we need the FBI to provide a live witness, a scientist from the FBI Lab, to testify at post-conviction hearings on these old cases, ... Some of these guys have sat in jail for decades, and it`s about time they got a fair hearing.
- Jack KingI have learned to have more faith in the scientist than he does in himself.
- David SarnoffI think we will see better vaccines within the next 15 years, but I`m not a scientist and am focused on the short-term - what will happen in the interim.
- Paul FarmerIt is a good morning exercise for a research scientist to discard a pet hypothesis every day before breakfast. It keeps him young.
- Adam GoldfarbI am among those who think that science has great beauty. A scientist in his laboratory is not only a technician: he is also a child placed before natural phenomena which impress him like a fairy tale.
- Adam MuellerI was going to be a scientist.
- Al McGuireFirst off, I`m not a scientist, and I make no apology for that.
- Alan KearneyThe scientist is not a person who gives the right answers, he is one who asks the right questions.
- Alan LeBretonThe intellectual takes as a starting point his self and relates the world to his own sensibilities; the scientist accepts an existing field of knowledge and seeks to map out the unexplored terrain.
- Alan OsterYou have teenagers thinking they`re going to make millions as NBA stars when that`s not realistic for even 1 percent of them. Becoming a scientist or engineer is.
- Alan StarlingNot so the scientist. The very essence of his life is the service of truth.
- Alex CulbertsonI`m a scientist, not a theologian. I don`t know if there is a God or not. Religion requires certainty.
- Alfred Russel WallaceAs a scientist, my attention became totally focused on global warming some 15 years ago by the elegant and powerful measurements of carbon dioxide trapped in ice cores taken as much as 2 miles deep from the great East Antarctica ice sheet.
- Allama IqbalFor example, in my own State of Arizona, an Israeli scientist is working with an Arizona company on a demonstration project involving a very fast-growing algae which can be used to power a biomass energy plan.
- Allan CollinsThe theist and the scientist are rival interpreters of nature, the one retreats as the other advances.
- Allan TreimanThe time has come to formulate guidelines for the ethical conduct of scientist, perhaps in the form of a voluntary Hippocratic Oath.
- Allan WalshAt this momentous event in my life - the acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize - I want to speak as a scientist, but also as a human being.
- Allan WalshA scientist`s aim in a discussion with his colleagues is not to persuade, but to clarify.
- Allison ReedIt is frequently the tragedy of the great artist, as it is of the great scientist, that he frightens the ordinary man.
- Alph BinghamThe scientist is a lover of truth for the very love of truth itself, wherever it may lead.
- Alvaro CifuentesAnybody who has been seriously engaged in scientific work of any kind realizes that over the entrance to the gates of the temple of science are written the words: Ye must have faith. It is a quality which the scientist cannot dispense with.
- Amanda OgdenI would never have been a good scientist - my attention span was too short for that.
- Amit SinghWithout imagination we can go nowhere. And imagination is not restricted to the arts. Every scientist I have met who has been a success has had to imagine.
- Anais FarajI can`t ever remember not wanting to be a scientist.
- Andrei KirilenkoRather than being an interpreter, the scientist who embraces a new paradigm is like the man wearing inverting lenses.
- Andrew Clay
