For a while it was a lot of remaking of Japanese horror films that have a whole different way of approaching a story - some of which translates quite well in this country. It is fascinating to watch for a guy who worked in the horror trenches.

On remakes: "There is a wilful lemming-like persistance in remaking past successes time after time. They can`t make them as good as they are in our memories, but they go on doing them and each time it`s a disaster. Why don`t we remake some of our bad pictures - I`d love another shot at `Roots of Heaven` - and make them good?"

I really owe my first big opportunity to Irving Thalberg`s technique of remaking pictures to his satisfaction.
