Recreating Quotes

I`ve never formally studied with anybody but I`ve always loved great photography. I like to shoot people. I always like to get into faces when there is something happening. It comes from the same motive as acting -- which is wanting to understand how people think and what they do. It feels exactly the same. You are observing human nature. I`m doing one by recreating it on film and another by capturing it on film. I just love studying human behavior.

That is a big danger, losing your inspiration. When I work in film and television I try to do each take a little differently. I never want to do the same thing twice, because then you`re not being spontaneous, you`re just recreating something.

There is a contingent of the digital-effects community to whom that is the holy grail - to create photographically real humans. To me that is the dumbest goal that you could possibly have. What`s wonderful about the medium of animation isn`t recreating reality. It`s distilling it.

At the same time, much of it seems to have to do with recreating things we or others had already done; it seems rather derivative intellectually; is there a dearth of really new ideas?

Recreating the South Pointing Chariot is particularly challenging because none of the original technical drawings remain in existence.
