I wouldn`t be here this morning if President Bush had done the one thing required of him as commander in chief -- protect and defend the Constitution. The minute that Valerie Plame`s identity was outed, he should have delivered a strict and strong message to his employees.
- Larry JohnsonInstead of a president concerned first and foremost with protecting this country and the intelligence officers who serve it, we are confronted with a president who is willing to sit by while political operatives savage the reputations of good Americans like Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson.
- Larry Johnson(to a reporter who asked him, after the Lewis `Scooter` Libby trial was over, to talk about the Valerie Plame leak case--Plame was an undercover CIA officer whose identity was leaked by Bush administration sources--which he promised he would do after the trial was over) It`s run its course. Now we`re going to move on. Next question.
- George W. BushTonight, a surprising new development in the CIA leak investigation. Karl Rove`s testimony to a federal grand jury is being reported. The testimony suggests that President Bush`s political adviser may not have been the original source for the Valerie Plame leak. Rove testifying that he first learned about Plame from columnist Robert Novak, a CNN contributor. Dana Bash reports.
- Lou DobbsRove and his attorneys can parse the words all they want, but it is now clear that while Rove may not have given a reporter Plame`s name, he clearly identified her by telling the reporter that Joseph Wilson`s wife was a CIA agent.
- Altaf LadakMr. Luskin also says that Rove did not knowingly disclose classified information and did not tell any reporters that Valerie Plame worked for the C.I.A.
- Amanda VailHe wasn`t sure exactly which day, but what`s noteworthy about that is that is also before Valerie Plame is first identified in the Robert Novak piece that ran on Monday, July 14.
- Amanda VailPotentially significant, by the way, because we don`t know exactly what`s in Matt Cooper`s notes, and we don`t know - and we don`t still know the answer to the crucial question of whether it was Rove or somebody else that revealed Valerie Plame`s name to him.
- Amanda Vailin the studio that went unnoticed for the full hour... Like Matt Cooper, Russert had testified to the grand jury on the Plame affair, yet at no point during the interview did the salient fact sally forth to the viewer. The pretense was uninvolved journalist interviewing involved participant: the reality was one pea in the pod interviewing a fellow pea.
- Anita MitchellMy source has now voluntarily and personally released me from my promise of confidentiality regarding our conversations relating to the Wilson-Plame matter,
