Not that I`m a complete whore, understand. There are movies I won`t do for any amount. I turned down Patton (1970) and I turned down Dirty Harry (1971). Movies that piss on the world. If I`ve got five bucks in my pocket, I don`t need to make money that f***ing way, daddy.

Guys I thought of as heroes were like Joe Louis and, maybe during the war, there was General (George S. Patton), of course, and maybe (Dwight D. Eisenhower), who was the head of the Allied forces. And Gary Cooper. There were just a handful of men and a handful of women. Now, people become stars who are just heiresses or something.

That Redford (Robert Redford) fellow is good. Brando (Marlon Brando). Ah, Patton (1970) - George C. Scott. But the best of the bunch is Garner - James Garner. He can play anything. Comedy westerns, drama - you name it. Yeah, I have to say Garner is the best around today. He doesn`t have to say anything - just make a face and you crack up.

To quote General Patton, `I don`t like paying for the same real estate twice.` If it`s not done, you say, `This is not what we agreed on.`

There are scenes here and effects here that would make George S. Patton wince.

I`m ambivalent about Patton (1970). I`m kind of a half-assed pacifist and I must tell you, you know, your philosophy is as strong as your feelings on a particular day. If you`re feeling good and you`ve accomplished something, you can back your philosophies to the hilt. And I don`t know what happened, but I decided I`m not going to glorify this thing. I wasn`t going to glorify war . . . I was a schmuck, because if I did "Patton" half as good as Mr. Scott (George C. Scott), I might have walked into The Godfather (1972). So that was a big mistake.
