Parable Quotes

(About THX-1138) My first film was a parable about the way we are living our lives today. I realize it was a rather depressing statement. People really weren`t interested in a depressing statement. Being a pessimist doesn`t seem to accomplish anything.

I flatter myself a terribly liberal New York playwright, but his prose floored me because it was so extreme, ... I found myself asking, `Wow, does this have any value? Does this merit a place on bookshelves?` And I thought, if he could unnerve me so completely, then maybe he`d be a worthwhile subject for drama. Maybe he`d be the kind of figure about whom I could write a parable about free speech that made liberals and conservatives equally nervous.

Every happening, great and small, is a parable whereby God speaks to us, and the art of life is to get the message.

While Fledging is a different type of book, The Parable series serve as cautionary tales. I wrote the Parable books because of the direction of the country. You can call it save the world fiction, but it clearly doesn`t save anything.
