You`re not going to call The Rolling Stones artists. I heard somebody compare them - or The Beatles - to Bach (Johann Sebastian Bach). It was claimed they had created something as memorable and as important as Bach, Haydn (Joseph Haydn), Mozart (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) and Schubert (Franz Schubert). I hate rock `n` roll. It`s ugly. I was both thrilled and overjoyed when I heard about the re-discovery of this wonderful manuscript, a true original by an artist for the ages. This wonderful find brings back the excitement of fifteen years ago, when the Seminary celebrated the unearthing of an original score by another musical genius, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. At that time, we called it the `Mozart miracle`. It seems appropriate that this time we are thankful for the `Beethoven blessing.` Through the extraordinary generosity of the Doane family, God has once again blessed us with a gift that is of rare and practical beauty.

I remain loyal to Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert in music and to Shakespeare and Jane Austen in literature.

I can`t cut off an ear everyday. Do the Van Gogh here and the Mozart there. Anyway it`s exhausting enough always having to check up on what one is really doing!.

It`s a great celebration. It`s our 15th anniversary and we are joining the rest of the world in celebrating Mozart`s 250th anniversary. It is also a somewhat bittersweet celebration as it represents my 15th season as director and conductor and my last season with the festival.
