Any GOP candidate can be dissected to a point that he is railed for having liberal tendencies. Former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani has waffled enough around his pro-abortion, pro-gay, pro-gun control views to recruit many Democratic supporters. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has flip-flopped so many times on issues of abortion, immigration and gay rights to make one wonder for what party he`s running. Texas Representative Ron Paul`s bent toward being an isolationist who wants to bring home every one of our 572,000 troops abroad makes the anti-terror, pro-military hairs on the back of my neck stand. Though Senator John McCain of Arizona is a friend and a true, decorated hero who I personally think would make an excellent vice president for Mike, he opposed the Bush tax cuts and co-authored legislation for comprehensive immigration reform that some believe jeopardizes national security and American sovereignty. And while former Tennessee Senator Fred Dalton Thompson is also a friend, his record of consistently voting against tort reform, opposing the impeachment of Bill Clinton on perjury, supporting opponents of Ronald Reagan (Gerald Ford and James Baker III) in 1976 and 1980, and failing to support federal constitutional amendments that would ban abortion and gay marriage doesn`t exactly make him "the only true conservative." To be fair, even if Reagan himself were running today, he likely couldn`t dodge liberal labeling, especially for his signing of the Immigration Control and Reform Act of 1986, which granted amnesty to aliens who resided in the U.S. since before 1982.
- Chuck NorrisWe have right now a media that is willfully ignoring the high crimes and misdemeanors of the president of the United States. Clinton lied about a blow job, and got impeached by the media and Congress. Bush got us into the Iraq war based on lies that he knew were lies. ... His war has recruited more Al- Qaeda members than Osama bin Laden could ever have dreamed for ... yet no one in the media is calling for impeachment. Unfortunately, the book and the play is more relevant now than it ever has been. It talks about continuous warfare as a means to control the Western economy, and as a way to control rebel elements within society through the use of fear, constant fear. In my country we seem to be sanctioning renditioning of innocent people without trial ... put them in jail without telling anyone ... and torture them out of suspicion of what we think they might do. This is exactly what Orwell was talking about when he spoke of thought crimes.
- Tim RobbinsTen of those Republican incumbents, all of whom voted for the impeachment of President Clinton, are from states that Bill Clinton carried.
- Robert TorricelliHistory will now say on this impeachment, as they said on the impeachment of Andrew Johnson, that it was the radical Republicans. ... And that is going to be the judgment of history.
- Ted KennedyI think as we get to the specifics, the entire impeachment process will just fall apart on its own weight, because we`ve been unable to articulate which allegations, if any, are even worth pursuing.
- Robert ScottI must say I am not surprised that the report asks for President Clinton`s impeachment. I know Kenneth Starr and the man that I know wrote the conclusion on day one and spent the next five years filling it in.
- Susan McDougalAn impeachment of the chief justice based on the evidence found will stand out as a historical aberration. It`s been a frustrating day.
- David BarryThat`s the really neat thing about Dan Quayle, as you must have realized from the first moment you looked into those lovely blue eyes: impeachment insurance.
- Al HubbardThe witnesses who testified before the grand jury were never subjected to cross-examination or impeachment by the defense,
- Ann MunzenmaierWe are not the first group to call for impeachment. We have decided to add our voice to the call. All the reasons given for the invasion have shown themselves to be half-truths or misleading. The conflict continues to drag on taking the lives of our soldiers and innocent Iraqis. It is clear that George Bush does not intend to change course in an effort to right this great wrong. He has had enough time in his second term to begin a shift and he has not. It is time to remove him from office.
- Anthony MixThe House managers submit witnesses are essential to give heightened credence to whatever judgment the Senate chooses to make on each of the articles of impeachment against President Clinton.
- Armand HammerIf the political alignment in the country were otherwise, impeachment would be a no-brainer.
