The Cold War has been the most irritating thing to me personally. Throughout my life we`ve been in the grip of militarism and military budgets and a mindset that dictates a war on Communism, and that`s a drain on the national energy. The real enemy is nationalism and patriotism.
- Oliver StoneThere is something insane about a lack of doubt. Doubt, to me anyway, is what makes you human, and without doubt even the righteous lose their grip not only on reality but also on their humanity.
- Tilda SwintonLike everyone else, I`ve had moments when I`ve felt that I`ve been losing my grip.
- Russell CroweRelax? How can anybody relax and play golf? You have to grip the club, don`t you?
- Ben HoganI better make the plot good. I wanted to make it grip people on the first page and have a big turning point in the middle, as there is, and construct the whole thing like a roller coaster ride.
- Mark HaddonThe genius of the economic machine is in its ability to convert these indulgences into profitability. It converts desire into attention, a grip on our eyeballs and eardrums, which in turn can be marketed to advertisers.
- Todd GitlinNothing in all the world is so nonsensical and contradictory, save mortals, that is, who live in the grip of the superstitions of the past.
- Anne RiceWe seem to have found the perfect balance between speed and grip.
- Juan Pablo MontoyaI always thought that there was going to be life after baseball, and so I designed that in my life I would have other interests after baseball that I would be able to step into. And I didn`t realize the grip that baseball had on me and on my family.
- Nolan Ryan(Keanu was just one of the guys, according to Mills, staying in a crappy condo in suburban Oregon like everyone else during the shoot.) He never said in any way, `I`m special` or `I`m different,` ... Working with Keanu is a lot like working with one of my electricians or a grip. It`s just someone who wants to come to work. The worst thing you can do is pay too much attention to him.
- Mike MillsThere was much less grip out there today than we had at the test, which can be seen from the lap times ? we are more than a second slower than last week. That meant the car was a bit tricky to drive, but we can fix that tomorrow morning. Overall, I think McLaren probably have the advantage over us ? but we are where we expected to be.
- Giancarlo FisichellaIt seems to have noticeably more grip than its predecessor.
- Nick HeidfeldTo get the feel of how the slider should roll off of your index finger, use this grip and practice at half speed and roughly half the distance to the mound.
- Steve CarltonIt should be thrown, with the wrist and grip set, just like your fastball, slightly off center - with the same velocity and intensity.
- Steve CarltonDuring that transfer, ... I couldn`t get a firm grip on the ball.
- Kaz MatsuiI`m starting to feel very possessive about it. I feel like I`ve got a good grip on it, only in the sense that I know how I need to swim it, whether I`m feeling good, bad or in between.
- Aaron PeirsolYou can`t let fear grip you. You have to step over that threshold. Good, law-abiding citizens can no longer stand by and let the carnage continue.
- Don MeredithIt didn`t have anyone`s prints on it, ... because the rubber grip wasn`t conducive to prints. We had an expert from the crime lab testifying about why there were no prints.
- John SchmidtThe car was a lot more stable in qualifying than it was in practice ... I feel like we`ve got room to improve and I don`t have quite as much of a death grip on the wheel, so we`ll take it from there in tonight`s practice. Hopefully we can make the car a bit quicker. Last year we struggled in qualifying, but had a very good race car, so we were able to work our way through the pack. This year we`re starting a little further up the grid so I think we can challenge early in the race and hopefully end up with a good result.
- Justin WilsonWe saw in the 1980s the Reagan Revolution break the grip of liberalism on the country. We saw in the 1990s a conservative resurgence in Congress that broke the liberalism there. Now we stand with the opportunity to see the Supreme Court righted.
- Tony PerkinsThe thing about speed, ... is that it makes everyone do everything a little quicker. Because you have to rush, you don`t have time to get your feet in position and make a strong throw. You don`t field the ball cleanly; you don`t get that good grip on the ball. Speed is the one thing that there`s no answer for. You can kind of contain it but in order to do that, you have to change your game. If the runner has done that, he`s accomplished his job.
- Mookie WilsonWe need real campaign finance reform to loosen the grip of special interests on politics.
- Tom DaschleDefinitely it was quite fun. When it?s like that, the bike?s working, the bike has got grip, and the lap comes together, it?s a lot of fun to ride the bike like that. Really enjoyed it.
- Nicky HaydenThe American grips himself, at the very sources of his consciousness, in a grip of care: and then, to so much of the rest of life, is indifferent. Whereas, the European hasn`t got so much care in him, so he cares much more for life and living.
- Alan SandalsYou must have the ability, if I may say so, to use such a high grip. You must have perfect technique. Then you can move to a higher grip.
- Andrea MacyThe judicial authorities are imposing a grim ordeal on three journalists under pressure from the governor of an unstable state. The Nigerian press is still in the grip of harsh legislation, a brutal police force and authoritarian governors. On this New Year`s Eve, we call for their release and we reiterate our commitment to the independent press and, in particular, to the three Port Harcourt prisoners who are exposed to dangerous challenges.
- Ann DarrinI overthrew it, ... I didn`t have a good grip on the ball.
- Antonio VelosoFortunately, we have great tires for this type of race. The surface of these slick Cooper A1 tires can become almost gel-like with the high track temperatures, and the way that they `squash` into the track surfaces really helps with grip and cornering.
- Barbara BurchI never saw a discontented tree. They grip the ground as though they liked it, and though fast rooted they travel about as far as we do.
- John Muir
