What does my performance have to do with Russell Crowe`s? Nothing. If I play Gladiator (2000) and we all play "Gladiator" with Ridley Scott in the same amount of time, maybe we have a chance to see who did it best.

You`ve got to move on and it`s a shame because there`s a part of you that thinks, `I was so attached to that movie and it`s success and what it meant to me.` There`s a part of you that wants to pull that off again. I think one of the successes of Gladiator is how we manage to turn on a dime the character from one thing to another where you believe he is one thing and he is something very different.

There`s no doubt that when you`re up for an award you want to win, but, finally, art is not a horse race. If Gladiator was a great film in its form and Crouching Tiger a great film in its form, which is better? They`re just different. It`s not a horse race. You can`t say, you know, Gladiator is so much faster!

You can`t believe Russell Crowe is the same actor who won an Oscar one year ago for Gladiator.

I think I`m better at making films on my home turf, really. You learn from experience and I`ve learnt that through The Beach (2000/I). I love big movies, like Gladiator (2000), but I`m better at smaller films.
