I started out to be a sex fiend but couldn`t pass the physical.
- Robert Mitchum(On the film Sharky`s Machine (1981)): Author Sidney Sheldon first mentioned William Diehl`s novel Sharky`s Machine to me at a party. Soon afterward Clint Eastwood sent me a copy of the same best-selling book with a note saying: "This is Dirty Harry in Atlanta!" Discovering it combined elements of two of my favorite movies, Laura (1944) and Rear Window (1954), I persuaded newly formed partners Orion Pictures and Warner Brothers to acquire the screen rights for me. The kind of film Robert Aldrich would`ve been great at, I knew from the get-go I had to direct. Granted complete creative control, for me only the third time this had happened, I assembled my cast. The film had one of the best crews I`ve ever worked with. Let me just say this about Charles Durning. He may be America`s finest working actor today. Right down to the soundtrack, a jazz fiend, I called my own list of all-stars. The picture opened at the end of the year to critical reviews that were beyond my expectations. But when even the New York Time`s Vincent Canby also got it, I was bowled over. The reviews made me a hot director.
- Burt ReynoldsOf course, I started as a collector. A true collector. I can remember as if it were only yesterday the heart-pounding excitement as I spread out upon the floor of my bedroom The Edward G. Robinson Collection of Rare Cigar Bands. I didn`t play at collecting. No cigar anywhere was safe from me. My father and uncles and all their friends turned their lungs black trying to satisfy my collector`s zeal. And then came cigarette cards, big-league baseball players. I was an insatiable fiend, and would cheerfully trade you three Indian Joes for one of that upstart newcomer, Ty Cobb.
- Edward G. RobinsonJazz is capable of doing much more than depicting the dope fiend and the drunk and the slinky gal. In our show there are many very funny sequences where we were able to use jazz as it can be used-in a happy way.
- Henry ManciniI can forgive Alfred Nobel for having invented dynamite, but only a fiend in human form could have invented the Nobel Prize.
- George Bernard ShawSave for thee and thy lessons, man in society would everywhere sink into a sad compound of the fiend and the wild beast; and this fallen world would be as certainly a moral as a natural wilderness.
- Hugh MillerA happy gardener is one with dirty fingernails, and a happy cook is a fat cook. I never get tired of what I do because I`m a sex fiend. I`m very lusty.
- John HolmesTo be a book-collector is to combine the worst characteristics of a dope fiend with those of a miser.
- Robertson DaviesThe Christian churches were offered two things: the spirit of Jesus and the idiotic morality of Paul, and they rejected the higher inspiration... Following Paul, we have turned the goodness of love into a fiend and degraded the crowning impulse of our being into a capital sin.
- Frank HarrisWe shall find no fiend in hell can match the fury of a disappointed woman,'”scorned, slighted, dismissed without a parting pang.
- Aaron RossYou may tell a man thou art a fiend, but not your nose wants blowing; to him alone who can bear a thing of that kind, you may tell all.
- Alice RossiI want my careless song to strike no minor key; no fiend to stand between my body`s Southern song - the fusion of the South, my body`s song and me.
