Everybody`s a mad scientist, and life is their lab. We`re all trying to experiment to find a way to live, to solve problems, to fend off madness and chaos.

Different filmmakers do it different ways. My way was to make something for cheap. It`s a good deal for people to give me $3 million for a movie. So they don`t have a lot of requirements. We`ve repeatedly given tax cuts to the wealthiest and left our most vulnerable American citizens to basically fend for themselves.

In this case, people realized that the police simply were overwhelmed. They had too much to do trying to rescue people and couldn`t protect citizens. What should people do when they have to fend for themselves?

If you`re from Kentucky or Alabama, you`re on your own. They have to fend for themselves.

And in terms of the capability of the Iraqis to fend for themselves, defend their country, there`s been no clear indication from this administration that they have the stand-up capability to do that. And until that happens, there is no end in sight,
