Malcolm X made me very strong at a time I needed to understand what I was angry about. He had peace in his heart. He exerted a big influence on me.
- Lena HorneThe overwhelming majority of people who make up the liberal and progressive groups of this country believe in democracy, and NOT in communism. We believe that the two cannot be reconciled here in the United States, and we believe that every effort should be exerted to make democracy work, and to extend its benefits to every person in every community throughout the land.
- Olivia de HavillandIf I watch my old films, for example The Seventh Seal, I realize I do a lot of stage acting there; I have always been disturbed by the declamatory fashion in which I speak in a film like that. But then TV suddenly swept through Sweden, and we were all soon accustomed to realism, from newsreels, talk shows, and then of course there was the Method school of acting, which exerted an influence in Europe also. Today, theater actors, and film actors with a stage background, use a different style to the one we subscribed to during the 1940s and 1950s. Bergman`s dialog in those days was very stylized, so it would have been difficult for me to speak those lines realistically.
- Max von SydowAnd very often the influence exerted on a person`s character by the amount of his income is hardly less, if it is less, than that exerted by the way in which it is earned.
- AJ HansonOnly let the North exert as much moral influence over the South, as the South has exerted demoralizing influence over the North, and slavery would die amid the flame of Christian remonstrance, and faithful rebuke, and holy indignation.
- Akinobu OkadaThe fatigue produced on the muscles of the human frame does not altogether depend on the actual force employed in each effort, but partly on the frequency with which it is exerted.
- Alan CurryThe frame of mind in the local legislatures seems to be exerted to prevent the federal constitution from having any good effect.
- Alexander SurikovIn the strict and proper sense, I take an efficient cause to be a being who had power to produce the effect, and exerted that power for that purpose.
