(quoted from Brian Lanker`s book "I Dream A World: Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America", New York: Stewart, Tabori & Chang, 1986)) My own people didn`t see me as a performer because they were busy trying to make a living and feed themselves. Until I got to café society in the `40s, I didn`t even have a black audience and then it was mixed. I was always battling the system to try to get to be with my people. Finally, I wouldn`t work for places that kept us out . . . it was a damn fight everywhere I was, every place I worked, in New York, in Hollywood, all over the world.
- Lena Horne(The Europeans declared that they were finding the Americans` pace of play too slow. Ian Wright said:) Naming no names - Michael Chang ... I`m going to buy him a 36 hour watch.
- Chris EvansI had great, great times as a Little League coach. People were talking about me quitting acting, and they would say, "What about your creative juices?" Coaching is creative, because you could take a kid who thought he wasn`t any good and, within four minutes, change his mind. And I didn`t have to wait six months for them to put music to it. How good a Little League coach was I? I was a little hyper. One thing I learned was that talent comes from everywhere; it doesn`t have to come just from the ghetto. But in Beverly Hills, because Daddy has a grocery store, the kids lack a lot of try.
- James Caan(quoted from Brian Lanker`s book "I Dream A World: Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America", New York: Stewart, Tabori & Chang, 1986)) My own people didn`t see me as a performer because they were busy trying to make a living and feed themselves. - Lena HorneI would have gone right ahead but the only thing, the only phenomenon that`s going on now of course, which is different in my experiences, is that you are getting things planted in the Net by people about the Woman in White on the Net. That`s not a nice change.
- Andrew Lloyd WebberI played Chang here under the lights here. I think that was `91. Another good match. I`ve played a lot more good matches under the lights than I played bad. You tend to remember some of the bad ones unfortunately.
- Stefan EdbergI snagged my shoelace, missed the step and crash, bang, wallop there were a million pieces of Chang ceramics lying around.
- Nick FlynnThere are some guys you have problems beating because of their style - I always had difficulties with guys like Michael Chang and Andre Agassi because their returns were so good and they played so well in defence.
- Alexa MennenI know about football - I`ve played for six clubs after all - and I can see the changes Martin makes during matches. Managing isn`t only about training and talking, it`s about what you do during the 90 minutes. That`s his strongest point - his tactics, how he changes the game.
- Anita vanThere is, ... no single global strategy that works in terms of democratic openness. Sometimes it happens from the bottom up and sometimes it happens from the up down, and to be successful it usually has to work in both ways. There has to be elite that wants change, though that desire can be supported and driven by popular participation. For example in Chile, the Philippines and Korea it required pressure on leaders on top to open up their systems and those pressures couldn`t have come only from civil society. In Ukraine and Georgia on the other hand there was obviously a big push from below -- pressure in both directions is necessary. There is not one single strategy that produces democratic transition.
