It can`t go on forever. The thing that bugs me is that I get treated like The Grandfather of Pop, just like James Brown is regarded as The Grandfather of Soul - and I do get treated like that. Now, I`m only three years older than David Bowie. Or is it two? I don`t know why we`ve kept going. I think really because we were successful. But that`s sort of begging the question.

(on "The Ball Room Dance" scene, her favorite from Labyrinth (1986)): I wore a beautiful silver ball gown, which was a refreshing change from the blue jeans I wore in almost every other scene. It was really a gorgeous set, with masses of huge chandeliers and thousands of flickering candles, hundreds of silken cushions and curtains, and masses of people in strange masks and ornate dresses. There was the thrill of dancing with David Bowie to one of the songs he composed especially for the film. There wasn`t enough room, for technical reasons, to really dance around properly, but we just drifted slowly and gracefully (I hope!) to David`s music, and he looked fabulous! It`s all a sort of magical fantasy sequence inside a huge bubble.

I didn`t know much about him, and I wasn`t a big country music fan. I listened to the Beatles and David Bowie, so I didn`t know a lot about him.

There`s nothing wrong with getting 20 million viewers, but I think there`s something wrong with aiming at getting 20 million viewers, because then you have to take away all the things that will offend, and you`ll end up with something so anodyne that it just washes over you for half an hour. I imagine The Office was also one of the most hated shows on television, that some people passionately hated it. But that`s better, for me. David Bowie said that after Let`s Dance, which is his biggest album ever and obviously not his best, he was doing these stadium gigs and looked out at the audience and suddenly realized that he had Phil Collins fans instead of Iggy Pop fans. And that`s how I feel about everything I do: I want Iggy Pop fans.

As a songwriter, I was influenced by David Bowie - a great writer. A class above everybody in so many ways. Lennon and McCartney, of course. Class stuff. David Cousins was my favorite lyricist.

When I was younger, I was fascinated by David Bowie, for example. he had created an entire myth around himself. It was as important as his music.

Whoever`s in charge of my Wikipedia, alright, whoever you are - the major, most egregious thing in there isn`t that, you know, apparently I`m bisexual and have like, twenty kids and, um, that I learned everything I know from a sixteen-year-old who probably wrote that in himself, but the most egregious of all the errors is that it says I am a massive David Bowie fan. Which is true, but it is a gross omission to leave out my obsession with Prince. Absolutely. So whoever you are, throw that in there. Go for it. You know what? Make me eighty feet tall. And you know, make me a transsexual. But put in Prince.

The press will naturally come and go as it has done with all artists, from David Bowie to Neil Young to U2.
