People just love to bash LA. People say it`s so pretentious, so arrogant, so this and that. But it`s truly a wonderful place. You don`t have to go to the places where that stuff goes on. You don`t have to go to Beverly Hills, you don`t have to go to the parties. You can live up in the Lower Canyon and live such a perfectly healthy, beautiful, fun life with all your friends. You can drive two hours one way and be at the Joshua Tree desert, two hours one way you`re skiing at Big Bear. Sure, it can get full-on and that`s why it`s good to get out. But it`s too easy just to say, "Nup, I hate it. I`m not living there anymore. - NW Magazine, March 2000

St Michael`s was one of those very rarefied, very Anglo-Catholic establishments where they rejoiced in more religious paraphernalia and theatricality than the entire Vatican. More incense-swinging, more crucifixes, more gold tassels, more rose petals, more holy mothers, more God knows what. Three times a day they played the Angelus. When you heard it, you had to stop whatever you were doing, do the Hail Marys in your head, and then return to what you were doing. Like it would come in the middle of a Latin class. I`m just conjugating the love verb, amo, amas, amat, and doingggg! you have to stand up, go through the whole Angelus, mother-of-God thing and then crack on with amamus, amatis, amant. Sir! Because, if you didn`t, Whack! Cane. Belt. Education by fear. And the really funny thing was they wouldn`t tolerate bullying between peers. Prefects could bash you with a slipper, but you weren`t allowed to give each other a rough time. Like who do you think you are? You haven`t yet earned the privilege of being violent.

I was crushed when Bush got re-elected. I was so depressed and am still gravely disappointed with the results of both elections. I think history will verify that the world would have been a much better place if the outcome had not been that way. I`m never going to be invited for tea at the White House. But I`ve never gone on stage - before the elections or since - and slagged off Bush. Not because I agree with him in any way, out of respect for the office of President. It`s too obvious to bash Bush. Everybody knows what I think about his policies. We went to a local bar for a couple of drinks to cheer ourselves up. On the way home we passed a couple who were in their sixties. I could see the recognition in their eyes so I said, `How ya doing?`. The old guy replied, `I only got one thing to say to you` - and put his hand in the sign of a `W`. I went bananas - and that wasn`t one tenth of how badly my wife reacted. Needless to say, it`s been a difficult last couple of years. It`s heartbreaking many people now view Americans with suspicion. At one time, we were everybody`s best friend. We could go to places perceived as dangerous territories. Now, I`d think twice about asking our road crew to travel there. (May 2006)

I say, if you`re going to bash us, just be clever.

I don`t want to bash Bill and Hillary, because they`re friends of mine, but I do have a difference of opinion about how to take back the House and the Senate.

Most of my life, I read what is said on IMDB. The fans on the Raw is War board make the most sense of any Internet fan, apart from the one or two that create second accounts to bash me. Keep the board alive-uh.

Tonight, a surprising new development in the CIA leak investigation. Karl Rove`s testimony to a federal grand jury is being reported. The testimony suggests that President Bush`s political adviser may not have been the original source for the Valerie Plame leak. Rove testifying that he first learned about Plame from columnist Robert Novak, a CNN contributor. Dana Bash reports.

This week, at the funeral for the widow of Dr. Martin Luther King, two of the speakers, Jimmy Carter and Rev. Joseph Lowery, might have opened their remarks by saying that they came not to bury Coretta Scott King, but to bash (President) Bush, which is exactly what they proceeded to do.
