Pop flies, in a sense, are just a diversion for a second baseman. Grounders are his stock trade.
- Jackie RobinsonI marvel at him. I wasn`t any good anymore at 39 and had to get out. (As a shortstop) he had great range and was a great hitter. Now he`s a slugging first baseman ... it`s just amazing.
- Mark Grace(Four Ducks players were named to the 2005 Atlantic League Post Season All Star Team. Outfielder Henry Rodriguez was selected after winning the regular season batting title and setting a new Ducks single season record for home runs. Second Baseman Carlos Hernandez was chosen after finishing second in the batting title race behind his teammate. Also recognized were pitchers Lance Davis and Todd Erdos. This season, Davis won the most games in a single season by a Ducks pitcher and also became the all-time wins leader in franchise history, while Erdos, in the role of closer, led the Atlantic League with 32 saves on the season.) We are very proud of these four guys, ... They put together exceptional seasons and led us to the post season for the second straight year.
- Michael HirschThe base paths belonged to me, the runner. The rules gave me the right. I always went into a bag full speed, feet first. I had sharp spikes on my shoes. If the baseman stood where he had no business to be and got hurt, that was his fault.
- Ty CobbThe first pitch I threw was to third baseman Bob Bailey. It was a fastball, low and away. He ripped it for a home run down the left field line.
- Steve CarltonI haven`t seen every second baseman, but I find it hard to believe that anyone`s better than Hudson, ... He leads in put outs, assists, chances and fielding percentage. That shows you, not only is he sure-handed, but he gets to more balls.
- Andy BussThat ball right there I was fouling off to the first baseman in foul territory, trying to stay inside that ball, ... This time, I tried to get the (bat) head out, get my hands out. That`s kind of where I need to be. I could finish the season on that note so I can take that into the Dominican.
