(from DNC keynote speech) "There`s not a liberal America and a conservative America. There`s the United States of America. We worship an awesome God in the blue states, and we don`t like federal agents poking around our libraries in the red states. We coach Little League in the blue states, and have gay friends in the red states. There are patriots who opposed the war, and patriots who supported it. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the Stars and Stripes, all of us defending the United States of America."
- Barack ObamaThe Pledge of Allegiance does not end with Hail Satan.

- Rick Savage(Thoughts on the one film (or films) that made him want to become a filmmaker and why): There was no epiphany from one film. There were a few that stood out over the years. I was 8 when I saw _Ladri di biciclette (1948)_, and it was the first black-and-white film I had ever seen. It triggered my curiosity to start seeing European cinema. When I was 7, I saw The Making of `Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid` (1970). Hearing George Roy Hill talk about all the choices he made, I knew that directing movies was what I wanted to do. I remember seeing Death and Venice 40 times one year, and then switching my allegiance to Godard after seeing Masculine/Feminine! I knew early on that I was a nerd and that films were my refuge. Those first few minutes before the lights went off, and you`re alone in the theater waiting, were really pleasurable. Whether it was Steve McQueen, the coolest guy in cinema, to Robert Altman`s strange and wonderful 3 Women (1977), I saw hundreds of films before I ever picked up a camera. I believe I took something away from each one.
- Alfonso CuarónHollywood`s only allegiance these days is to money. If they think there`s cash to be made by making films with a conscience, then you might see a revival of that kind of film-making. Otherwise, forget it.
- Andrew NiccolNumerous American lives have been affected by the devastation of hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. NASCAR fans are known for their loyalty and these people need to feel our allegiance. I beg that each of you find a way to give. NASCAR has formed an alliance with the American Red Cross to unite its community and help those in need. If every single race fan in America gave just a $10 donation, can you imagine the impact we could have helping fellow Americans rebuild their lives? Give. Please.

- Michael WaltripThere are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.
- Barack ObamaUnfortunately, 9/11 crystallized some misconceptions that made some people unable to realize that really healthy dissent is in truth more supportive of those poor soldiers being sent to get slaughtered than this blind allegiance to a certain political regime, ... It`s like the Earth is flat and we`re gonna walk off the edge of it. It causes me a certain amount of dismay. I realize that Americans are innocent -- only seven percent of our population even owns a passport. But man, I`ll tell you, I don`t think corporate America and the political regimes meet in an innocent place, and they don`t mind using the innocence of Americans in a greedy way.
- Rodney CrowellBut then, so far as I know, I am the only performer who ever pledged his assistants to secrecy, honor and allegiance under a notarial oath.

- Sean HannityWe strain to tell Americans and aliens in this country that there`s nothing unique about America, nothing unique about American civilization, nothing that requires their allegiance, nothing of great value that they should sacrifice for.

- Christopher SmithNo amount of time will weaken our allegiance to avenging those lost in the horrible attacks. America has a sharp memory, a firm resolve, and a commitment to her own.
- John DoolittleThere`s no question that the administration picked this fight knowing that sparks would fly. It helps them politically if they are seen fighting with the press about things like judicial philosophy, God and the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Terry MoranThe United States is not a nation based upon race, creed, or religion - we are a nation based upon our loyalty and allegiance to our country and her principles.
- Alice GolemboThe oath of renunciation and allegiance is a solemn vow taken by thousands of immigrants each year to become a United States citizen. The oath is the fundamental statement of allegiance to the United States, and this allegiance is what unites America.

- April ProutIn the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person`s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn`t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.
- Theodore RooseveltI also wish that the Pledge of Allegiance were directed at the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, as it is when the President takes his oath of office, rather than to the flag and the nation
- Dr. Carl Sagan
