Blake Mitchell Quotes

Blake Mitchell

We played hard, we played tough. We had our chances. I thought I did some good things, but we didn`t get the win. We definitely played better than we did last week. That`s all we want to do '“ get better every week. I thought we took some good strides this week. It`s a tough loss but we have to keep going.

They did recruit me, but I decided that I wanted to go out of state. Plus, I wanted to play early.

I never really considered going (to Georgia). One of the reasons was because they had (D.J.) Shockley and (David) Greene already there. When I came to South Carolina, I fell in love with the town.

My first option wasn`t there so I had to find somebody. (Rice) was open so I hit him. It was a three-step route and I had to get out of there. I didn`t have much time even with a three-step drop.

I had him. It was a little out route. I threw a little too far. That`s the way it goes.

I never saw him play. I`m too young.

Of course, I was very excited (when Spurrier joined the Gamecocks). I thought it`d be a great opportunity for me and for this university. He`s very demanding as far as technique and throwing on rhythm, things like that. He`s a good coach. I couldn`t have asked for anything better.

You have to take what Coach Spurrier tells you to do and just go out there and do it. It`s a lot of fun playing for him.

At first you`re kind of in awe of him, but once you get to know him, he`s a great guy and a great coach.

It was something I wasn`t expecting to hear this early in camp.
