That was one of the saddest moments of my life when I carried him out. Carlos was a hero, my mentor and a friend.

I was afraid to talk about it. Not anymore. People gotta know what I went through.

But you can`t let this beat you. The world didn`t stop when Sept. 11 happened. I had to go to work the next day.

I had no idea who the terrorists were ... what a terrorist was.

They found my partner in the spring of 2002. I was off duty when they called to tell me, ... '¦ That was one of the saddest moments of my life, when I carried my partner`s body out of the rubble.

I thought I was gunna die. As soon as the towers were coming down, I thought that was it. Someone upstairs was watching out for me, and that`s why I`m here today.

The best part is looking at the rocks and sand. I like imagining myself on vacation.

I`m still afraid to fly.

If I knew my wife was inside, maybe I would have done the same thing.
