I just wanted to know what he said. When I came into the dugout they told me he wasn`t trying to do it on purpose. I know that. I know that`s the last thing you would want to do in that situation.
I`m pretty sure we`re happy, but we don`t take things for granted. It`s not where we`re at right now. It`s where we`re going to be next week.
You don`t play to win the division, you play to win championship rings, ... How many division titles does this team have? ... We don`t care about that. It doesn`t matter what record we have. Last year we had the best record in the majors and we lost in the World Series.
It`s amazing, ... I don`t think about the last four years. All I`m thinking about is today. Going into spring training, you don`t try to win the MVP. All you`re going to do is help out your team to win. If you can do that, this is the reward that you get after the season.
It`s always nice to do something in front of your fans who support you all year long, ... (There are) 47,000 people up there cheering for you and giving you a standing ovation -- it`s great -- but you can`t get caught up in that. You need to make sure you get ready to go, and I`m pretty sure they will be pretty happy if we bring them a World Series championship.
You have to show respect for the other guys. It`s good to know we have a spot in the playoffs but still you don`t want to take things for granted.
Of course I`d take 40 homers, a .330 average and 100 RBIs, but it can be better. I want to get better every year. I never want to be satisfied.
The only thing that matters is that we win the World Series.
That`s why you practice for a month-and-a-half in spring training. To get ready for (days) like today.
We know what to expect from Woody. I love Woody. I still talk to Woody. But when I go out there to face him, I won`t be thinking of any of that.
